Lately I have heard some pro-abortion politicians claim that the pro-life position among Christians was a recent phenomenon that doesn’t reflect traditional religious beliefs but is really all about conservative politics. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fact is, Christians have been Pro-Life from the very beginning.

In Seminary, I studied all of the early Christian non-canonical literature extant from the first to the 4th century. One early work- “The Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles,” specifically addressed abortion and infanticide. Here’s a quote from chapter 2- verse 2:

…thou shalt not procure abortion, nor commit infanticide…

The Didache was a popular early Christian catechism reported to be ‘the teaching of the twelve apostles’ and reflected much of the teaching in the Gospel of Matthew. Scholars date the work from the late First century.

Also in verse two:

…thou shalt not commit sodomy…

This confirms that the Apostle Paul wasn’t the only early Christian leader that taught against homosexuality but it was the norm among the early Christians.

I keep reading recent claims from some liberal Christians that Jesus never specifically said anything against homosexuality. But he did confirm the Law of Moses which certainly did teach against it:

17 “… I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. …(NLT)
